Since its inception, Department of Humanities and Social Sciences has been persisting in carrying out the Party’s policies on education and the concept of scientific development. Holding the concept of running school, that is, making service its aim and employment its guidance, the department has been actively exploring and innovating in the mode of cultivating talents and constantly deepening the educational and teaching reforms. It always puts great emphasis on the cultivation of students’ comprehensive qualities and advocates human spirit by making its efforts to strengthen the construction of humanities, increasing students’ humanistic qualities and promoting the development of campus culture.
There are seven teaching & research groups in the department, which are related to the teaching of ideological and political education, tourism management, public administration, Chinese, Mathematics, English and physical education. The faculty team in this department is well-structural in the aspects of professional titles, educational backgrounds and ages. The department now employs 38 full-time and part-time (also involved in administration) teachers, including 23 associate professors and 1 academic backbone. In recent years, the teachers have been actively taking part in teaching and research activities, bearing such abundant academic fruits as one quality course, several research projects above the college-level, nearly a hundred theses and several text books.
Currently, the department offers two majors, namely Tourism Services and Management (including the three directions of tourism management, hotel management and tour guiding) and Community Management and Services. The facilities for practical training are constructed on the campus, including tourism management simulation training rooms, hotel management simulation training rooms, language labs, simulated hotel rooms, simulated dining rooms, physical training rooms and a simulated community center, etc. There are also several industrial attachment bases out of the college to allow students to experience first-hand what it takes to work in workplaces.
All the faculty members and the students of the department will constantly forge ahead and persist in reforms and innovation, taking on a new look to welcome the bright future.
