Guizhou Light Industry Technical College was founded with the approval of the People’s Government of Guizhou Province and is affiliated to Department of Education of Guizhou Province. 　　The school is located in Nanming District of Guiyang, with two campuses in Longdongbao and Wangchengpo. Surrounded by trees, the two campuses boast a favorable environment. Department of Economics and Management, Information Engineering Department and Art & Design Department are on the Longdongbao campus, while Department of Light Industry and Chemical Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering and Department of Humanities and Social Sciences are on the Wangchengpo campus. The two campuses occupy a total area of 204 Mu and the construction area of buildings is near 90000 m2. There are 50 classrooms for the teaching of certain majors and practical training rooms in the college and 53 practical training bases out of the college. 15 well-equipped computer rooms and design studios with an access to Internet house more than 800 computers for the use of teaching. The number of books in the library has reached 200,000 volumes.

　　Currently, the college has an enrollment of more than 6000 students. The number of the faculty and staff is 316, including 79 with senior professional titles, 74 lecturers, 68 “dual-qualification” teachers and 69 Master’s degree holders. Moreover, the college has invited 22 visiting professors and associate professors to teach in the college and near 50 skillful technicians in the front line of enterprises as practical training instructors.

　　With the approval of superior departments, 3327 students will be enrolled in 2011, including 3127 students in the province (including 300 students with honors recommended by current secondary vocational schools and 300 personal applicants from such schools) and 200 students from other provinces.

　　After being admitted, new students are supposed to transfer their party or league relations to the college. They can also choose to transfer their household registers to Guiyang of their own free will. Students from needy families can apply for national student loans and have the benefit of obtaining national grants. Students with outstanding achievements can apply for national scholarships, national motivational scholarships, provincial-level scholarships and grants as well as college-level scholarships and grants. Students from extremely underprivileged families can apply for living allowance and work to put themselves through college by doing some odd jobs on campus. Newcomers will be registered on Electronic Registration Web of the Ministry of Education for Tertiary Vocational and Technical Colleges after three months’ review.

　　According to related regulations of superior departments, the tuition for majors in art is 4800 RMB per year, and the tuition for other majors is 2800 RMB per year. The accommodation fee for an ordinary dormitory is 300 RMB per year, and 750 RMB per year for an apartment. The textbook fee will be charged by worth of books. After finishing all the courses in teaching plans and meeting the requirements of graduation during the specified periods, students will be granted diplomas by the college, which are recognized nationally and have been e-registered by the Ministry of Education.

　　Students with honors can take part in examinations to further their study for a bachelor’s degree in the same major. The college will make great efforts to provide the platform and create various opportunities for the employment of graduates. The employment rates of the graduates have been over 95% for years. The college has become a regular talents supplier for dozens of large and medium-sized enterprises in and out of the province, like Kweichow Moutai Co., Ltd. and Nine Dragons Paper (Holdings) Limited.

　　According to the related decision of the People’s Government of Guizhou Province, the college will be moved as a whole to Dangwu in Huaxi District in three to five years, where has been designated as the concentration area for Guizhou’s colleges and universities. The college is the only tertiary vocational and technical college in the province to move into the concentration area. According to the spirit of the No. 3043 document issued by Guizhou Development and Reform Commission, the new campus will cover an area of more than 1000 Mu, of which the planned construction area of buildings will be 320,000 m2. By that time, the new campus will be able to hold 11000 students to study there. After the construction of the new campus is completed, the college will continue following its guidelines and concepts of running the school, which are “making service its aim and employment its guidance, cultivating highly skilled talents and advancing on the way of combining production with study”, with the aim to give full play to the characteristics of higher vocational and technical education and to cultivate professional talents with advanced practical skills.
