There are a lot of rises and falls in Guizhou, with various kinds of landforms, deep rivers and lakes, wide dispersal of a Karst area, which helped to shape the natural landscape. The integration of strange mountains, beautiful rivers, canyons and Karst caves has earned it the name of a mysterious natural park.
⑴ Eight National Scenic Areas
a. Huangguoshu Scenic Area
This site consists mainly of the Huangguoshu Fall and a group of smaller waterfalls. With a subtropical landscape and unique flavours and cultural relics of the Buyi and Miao nationalities, it was listed in the first batch of National Scenic Spots. The waterfall---74 meters high and 81 meters wide—is the biggest of its kind in China and among the most magnificent in the world.
b. Longgong Cave Scenic Area
In the suburbs of Anshun there is a spectacular series of underground caverns called Longgong (Dragon’s Palace) which features a picturesque landscape of water-filled caves and religious sights. These form a network through mountains, water, forests, caves, waterfalls lakes and brooks. The whole 60-km2 scenic area cinsists of four parts—Longgong, Xuantang, Youcaihe(Green Rape River) and Mahuangjing.
c. Hongfenghu Lake Scenic Area
The lake is located in Qingzhen near Guiyang and composed of four lakes—the North Lake, the South Lake, the Middle Lake and the Back Lake. They are together known as ’Hongfenghu” and cover a total area is of 52 km2 ,or 10 times that of the well-known West Lake in Hangzhou. The scenic area is a magnificent mixture of mountains, rivers, forests and caves as well as villages of the Miao, Buyi and Dong.
d. Zhijindong Cave Scenic Area
The Zhijindong Cave Scenic Area consists of the Zhijindong Cave, the Zhijin old town, Hongjiadu Lake and the Luojiehe River Scenic Area. The Zhijindong Cave is a series of underground caverns stretching nearly 6.6 kilometers. The widest cave is 175 meters wide with a height of 150 meters. The cave is divided into three levels with more than 47 different kinds of Karst formations, fascinating both tourists and scientists.
e. Wuyanghe River Scenic Area
Running through Shibing and Zhenyuan counties of southeast Guizhou Province, the scenic area consists of the Wuyanghe River, the National Historical and Cultural City of Zhenyuan, the Provincial Historical and Cultural Town of Jiuzhou of Huangping County, the famous rafting destination of Shibing County seat, and its tributaries of the Xiaotanghe River and the Shanmuhe River. It is a combination of deep cultural and natural interest with distinctive folk customs and exciting rafting opportunities. The Wuyanghe River is divided into two sections: the upper Wuyanghe and the lower Wuyanghe. The upper Wuyanghe River—stretching about 50 kilometers—meanders through the Touxia Gorge, the Wuluxia Gorge, the Laodongxia Gorge and the Guanyinxia Gorge. At a length of 50 kilometers, the lower Wuyanghe River zigzags through the Zhugexia Gorge in Shibing County, and the Longwangxia Gorge, the Xixia Gorge and the Dongxia Gorge in Zhenyuan County.
f. Zhangjiang Scenic Area
Situated in Libo County of south Guizhou Province, the Zhangjiang Scenic Area consists of the Xiaoqikong Yuanyang Lake Scenic Spot, the Daqikong Di-e Caves, the gorge scenic area along the Shuichunhe River, and the scenic spots along the Zhangjiang River. There are 58 major scenic spots. Rafting on the Shuichunhe River is exciting while the Xiaoqikong Yuanyang Lake Scenic Spot harbours dozens of rare tree species amid a visually stunning Karst forest. There are more than 70 waterfalls in the scenic area. About five kilometers away from the Xiaoqikong Yuanyang Lake Scenic Spot, the Daqikong Di-e Caves feature the spectacular 80-meter-high Di-e Cave and a natural arch.
