I. About GLITC

Guizhou Light Industry Technical College (GLITC), established in February 2004 under the approval of the People’s Government of Guizhou Province, is a full-time public higher vocational institution formed by merging the Guizhou First Light Industry School (founded in 1977) and the Guizhou Second Light Industry School (founded in 1979). Affiliated with the Guizhou Provincial Department of Education, the college primarily focuses on higher vocational education while offering secondary vocational education and pre- and post-employment training.

GLITC has earned numerous national honors, including the National Huang Yanpei Outstanding Vocational Education Award, the First National Modern Apprenticeship Pilot Institution, the National Model Institution for Graduate Employment and Innovation & Entrepreneurship, the National Defence Education Distinguished School, the National High-Quality Specialist Higher Vocational College, and the Double High-LevelVocational College and Major Construction Unit (Chinas national initiative for top-tier vocational education). It is also a pilot institution for the Ministry of Education’s One-Stop Student Community Reform and the National Digital Campus Construction for Vocational Colleges, with two National Model Party Branches and one Ministry of Education-approved Ideological and Political Education Excellence Project.

Located in the Science and Technology New Town of Gui’an New District, the college covers over 1,800 acres (approximately 120 hectares) and has a total floor area of 394,600 square meters, including a 28,800-square-meter library with a collection of 1.39 million volumes. The college comprises seven departments, three divisions, and one institute, offering 25 higher vocational programs. Its distinctive Digital · Liquor · Art professional system—featuring one national-level high-standard major cluster, five backbone majors, and three provincial key major clusters—supports the development of Guizhou’s emerging industries, including big data, sauce-flavoured liquor, new energy, and cultural tourism.

International Collaboration

Actively participating in the Belt and Road Initiative, GLITC pioneered the establishment of Guizhou’s first Sino-foreign cooperative higher vocational education institution—Waikato International College—in partnership with New Zealands Waikato Institute of Technology (Wintec). To date, the college has launched over 20 international courses, facilitated over 100 faculty and student exchanges, and trained more than 1,000 global talents. In collaboration with industry partners, GLITC set up the overseas Jingshi Institute with Thailand’s Rajamangala University of Technology Lanna and developed the Jingshi Youxue Platform to foster talent in ASEAN countries.

Talent Development & Standards Export

Since obtaining qualification to recruit international students in 2019, GLITC has educated nearly 200 international students, with outstanding graduates continuing their studies at Chinese universities. In response to China-Thailand collaboration needs, the college has exported standardized curricula in Big Data Technology and New Energy Vehicle Technology, covering 10 core courses certified by Thai authorities. Jointly developed vocational standards, such as brewing techniques with Tanzania, and the Chinese + Vocational Skills brand—promoting traditional skill standards like baijiu (Chinese liquor) evaluation—have enhanced the global integration of vocational education.

Global Influence

By hosting 11 specialized events under platforms like the China - ASEAN Education Cooperation Week, GLITC has welcomed over 200 delegates from multiple countries, raising the profile of Guizhou’s vocational education on the global stage and contributing Guizhou Light Industry expertise to global vocational education development.
